American Idol: Threesome

posted Tuesday, 13 May 2008

The final three sing three songs each tonight -- a song chosen by judges, one by the producers, and one the contestant themselves chose.

David Archuleta (01, 04, 07) sang...

  1. And So It Goes by Billy Joel -- chosen by Paula.  It was really good, but I have to say that if all he does are ballads, I WILL fall asleep.  Jon believes David A would be the first American Idol that records an album of ONLY ballads.  Zzzzzzzzzzz
  2. With You by Chris Brown -- David chose this song for himself.  Hey, he woke things up a bit with this song!  As Randy said, it was good to have him sing something different, but it was sort of unbelievable for him.  Is this a catch-22 situation?  "Don't sing more ballads/liven things up vs. the non-ballad didn't work for you/it's not your thing"???
  3. Longer by Dan Fogelberg -- chosen by the producers.  It was rather good, but going back to those zzzzzzz ballads zzzzzz.
Syesha Mercado (02, 05, 08) sang...
  1. If I Ain't Got You by Alicia Keys -- chosen by Randy.  It was also very nice -- her voice and confidence have really come along.
  2. Fever by Peggy Lee -- chosen by Syesha for herself.  I thought it was good, but it didn't make me want to jump up and cheer for her.  Simon went so far as to call it a cabaret performance... I might agree.
  3. Hit Me Up by Gia Farrell (sounded rather Rhianna-esque) (From the Happy Feet soundtrack) -- chosen by the producers.  I happened to think that it was her best performance of the night.  She had no choice but to sing it because it was not her choice.
David Cook (03, 06, 09) sang...
  1. The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face by Roberta Flack -- chosen by Simon.  It was an interesting pick for David, but I truly enjoyed it and liked what he did with it.
  2. I Dare You to Move by Switchfoot --chosen by David for himself.  I thought it was a little pitchy, but I loved that he rocked.  I would have liked a longer version so I could have more.
  3. I Don't Want to Miss a Thing by Aerosmith -- chosen by the producers.  I wanted to hear MORE MORE MORE!!!  I will be downloading this song from iTunes (like all of David Cook's other AI songs -- my iPod is full of them!).

Based on the "numbers," Syesha will most likely go home.  Overall, she was the weakest of the three tonight.  I am fairly confident that it will be a David vs. David (as many people have said all along) finale.  It is my opinion that David Cook is already the winner (did I mention that although David Archuleta's voice is amazing, his songs put me to zzzzzz sleep zzzzzz because they're ballads, and I can only listen to so many ballads before zzzz falling asleep zzzz.)

Tune in tomorrow night!!!
