American Idol Update -- Late

posted Wednesday, 18 February 2009

I like the small changes that they've been making this year.  I like the new judge.  I like that they brought back the group audition during Hollywood Week, but still kept or eliminated people based on individual performances within the group performances.  I like that they're going with 36 'finalists' -- 3 groups of 12 -- that they are going to whittle down to a slim 12 with a few more shows.

Last night's first group of 12 picked up the mic and I have to say that I was rather unimpressed.  I really only liked 4 of the 12 -- the chick with the shorter blonde hair and hot pink sections, Anoop (-Dog), the Oil Rig guy, and Danny Gokey.  I really wanted the black guy from Cleveland to do well, but it just wasn't in the cards last night.

Anyway, 3 people move on from this group -- the top vote-getter boy and girl, and the the third-highest vote-getter from the group.  I heard something about a Wild Card show, but I don't know how that's going to work.  I'm guessing that they'll get 9 people from the three groups of 12 and then have the 'rejects' sing off one last time to get the remaining 3 spots filled.  Sounds interesting to me.

Anyway, I hear that Carly Smithson and David Johns are supposed to duet on tonight's results show.  I suppose I'll tune in.  I always do!
