American Idol: Week 5

posted Tuesday, 21 March 2006

I really liked this genre tonight -- music from the 1950's.  The songs were a LOT easier to sing, and the results were MUCH nicer!

Mandisa -- Sang I Don't Hurt Anymore (I don't remember who originally recorded it) and blew the roof off!  She looked fantastic and sounded even better.  I love this girl!  Simon's comment?  "I ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT!"  I have to say that I don't believe he's ever said that before.  She stays.

Bucky Covington -- Sang Oh Boy! (Buddy Holly).  I wasn't really fond of the song.  It was a good fit for him, but he didn't "WOW" me.  I think he's in the bottom three.  I also think it's his week to go home.

Paris Bennett -- Sang Fever (Peggy Lee)-- and boy, did she sing it.  She also dressed the part and looked great.  She stays.

Chris Daughtry -- Sang I Walk the Line (Johnny Cash).  Every week, this guy continues to impress me.  He's my favorite to win... in a tie right now with Mandisa, in my opinion.  He even dressed the part of Johnny Cash -- trademark all black.  Chris stays.

Katharine McPhee -- Sang Come Rain or Come Shine (Ella Fitzgerald).  It was wonderful, and she was beautiful.  I wasn't fond of her dress, but she still looked great.  She stays.

Taylor Hicks -- Sang Not Fade Away (Buddy Holly).  He is just so damn much fun.  Wasn't a great singing performance, but he still commands the stage and has fun.  He stays.

Lisa Tucker -- Sang Why Do Fools Fall In Love? (I can't remember the original artist).  I honestly was not impressed.  I thought it lacked something, but I'm not sure what.  Bottom three again this week.

Kevin Covais -- Sang When I Fall In Love (artist???).  Perfect song choice for him (as opposed to last week's Part Time Lover LOL).  He sang it well, but I kind of think that others outshined him tonight... therefore, he rounds out the bottom three.

Elliott Yamin -- Sang Teach Me Tonight (artist???).  I thought he did really well, and this week, I could feel that he connected with the song and the story within the song.  He stays.

Kellie Pickler -- Sang Walkin' After Midnight (Patsy Cline).  Perfect song for ditzy Kellie.  Seriously, though... the ditz thing IS starting to get on my last nerve, even if it IS authentic.  She stays.

Ace Young -- Sang In the Still of the Night (artist???).  He put a different twist on it -- jazzy -- and it worked for him.  I don't mind when he looks at me through the camera, unlike Constantine Maroulis from last season (who happened to be in the audience tonight).  Ace stays, once again, on his looks.

To recap:

Bottom Three: Bucky Covington, Lisa Tucker, Kevin Covais

Going Home: Bucky Covington

Tune in tomorrow night  to see how I did!  Or not.  Your choice.
