Oh, so I guess it's been a few days weeks since I've posted. I have to say that it isn't my fault. Honest!
I woke up on Super Bowl Sunday (HORAYYYYYYYY STEELERS!!!!!!! WOOOOOO HOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) and couldn't stand up straight, walk, or sit in a chair. My sciatic nerve was pinched and mad as hell. The most relief I had that day was when I laid flat on the floor in the living room and tried to watch the game while my 21-month-old niece crawled on me like I was a slide. Getting up off of the floor was another issue.
I called the doc on Monday for some pain relievers -- and they hadn't a clue what to prescribe me, since a) I can't handle the heavy-duty meds like Percocet or Vicodin (they make me physically ill, and I'd rather deal with the pain than take them), and b) I've had gastric bypass surgery (over 5 years ago now) and cannot take anything that has an anti-inflammatory, including ibuprofin. So I scored me some Tylenol 3 (which means it has codeine). Yeah, it wasn't touching the pain. I went through three school days of trying not to walk before I lost my shit on Wednesday after the Super Bowl.
I ended up crying three different times at school because the pain was so bad. It doesn't help that my classroom is the farthest possible location (OK, damn near the farthest) from the staff room. All I know is that I couldn't fucking take it any more. I went to the ER that night.
Yeah, they couldn't do much either. I guess I can't take steroids (to lessen the inflammation)... they have some very serious side effects for gastric bypass patients. So? They shot me in the ass with some morphine (but not without a shot of phenergan first, to allay the nausea), and sent me home with a script for some liquid pain reliever that I've had before for previous abdominal surgeries. Oh, and a Hookey Pass from Work for two days. Can I tell you that the liquid pain reliever is some gooooood shit??!!!?!?? It's one of two things that saved my ass. The other? Physical Therapy for the sciatica.
So, I took off that Thursday and Friday and laid low through the weekend, and I started PT the following Monday. I've only had two sessions of PT, but I am already moving 95% better than I was. This past weekend? I was damn near 'normal' (OK, as normal as I get) this past weekend. It just twinges now and then. I've been keeping up with my stretches, and I visit the PT again this coming Wednesday. I've been through two weeks of hell, people, and PT helped me live to tell about it.
Basically, I couldn't sit for more than two seconds at a computer to hop on here to even say HI, I'M OUT OF ORDER. Let me tell you, sciatic nerves are bitches. The whole lot of 'em. I don't know what I did to piss mine off. I sure wish I did know, because then I'd be VERY careful not to do that again. So, can we join together to wish me pain free days ahead? Please?!???
